Ordinary Bullshit ~ Spiritual Bullshit

Before I was hooked into spiritual noise and finally nonduality, life was very ordinary. I raced, ate, slept go laid when I could, etc. Then in the midst of the search "it was seen" [advaita corrected-nessly speakin'] ... 'all is consciousness, there is only Self, that there is the nondual too, all is nothing, there is only oneness' etc etc ad nauseum!

NOW, life is ordinary. I eat, sleep, watch Formula 1 and Indy racing, nap, eat ice cream, cook Rib-eyes when I can afford; play Texas Holdem whenever I can [I am slightly up at the game], dream about getting laid [been WAY too long! Applications accepted... :-))], consume as much Red Bull as I can afford, etc etc, and it is all absolutely insignificant! AND there is no big deal about either spiritual bullshit OR ordinary bullshit. Mostly people just annoy me and I prefer hanging out in nothing, in my Reno cave ;-) - and I prefer sleep to waking and or dreaming. Whatever! :-).

Is it ignorance or apathy? I don't know and I sure as hell don't care! LOL (Thanks for that last one Chris P...)

Signs of a Fake and a True Guru

The Fake speaks nicely, and keeps you on a path with the absolutely phony notion of a 'somebody' who can 'become' enlightened 'someday'.

The True Guru follows no rules and acts non-volitionally in a perfect dance with the seeker's mental predisposition. For example, Bob did nearly whop me upside the head one day, sitting at his dining room table ... we had been chatting and I was resisting the pointing to that "Glassy Essence" ... thereupon Bob stood up to his full 6' plus-a-lot, waved those huge Popeye-Tatted arms in apparent frustration, and yelled at the top of his voice, "What the FUCK GOOD does it do to tell you ANYTHING!?"

Now THAT was a FULL STOP!

There it was, seen for the first time in a waking state (i.e NOT 'samahdi) .. that "Glassy Essence, radiant and ever present.

Altered the Beingness, shattered the false-m (though it did take some "time" to fully disintegrate, once seen a false you just cannot really give it credibility or authority any longer...

Gilbert Schultz notes on Facebook: "Spiritual Bullshit is an indulgence and it must be challenged. If it is scared out of you, even for a few minutes, what is left is simple being present to what is. That is enough to get a good taste."

Spot ON.

Moved ... in Tears and More...

A friend writes, Your post [on www.facebook.com/charliehayesnow] today spurred me to write to you. I have tears streaming down my face. Today I was aware of some sadness that has been inside brewing. The difference in my experience now is that I catch the part ...sooner.... that wants to blame something including myself. I am just feeling the feelings but not sure if ..I am ...all the way AND am not sure if I am NOT blaming myself. AND...I also have this belief that I wouldn't be crying over some misunderstanding of what is true IF I was clearer. So possibly it just is that sadness appears. It may just be so....that we are human and have feelings that can get hurt. But I do have a belief that my wounds keep me from seeing clearly. I am curious what you 'feel' after taking the time to really let in what I'm sharing.

Charlie: Sadness happens to no one. Happiness happens to no one. There are beliefs until you LOOK and see that there is NO believer, in you or anyone. Where IS any believing-'me'? Show it to us! What is it that arises as 'feeling' HERE?  Much Love for Who You Are! Thanks!!! <3

Whose life is it? What is the Source of all this being, doing, and living?

We talk about life generally as "my life, my body, my mind, my world". Right? This is the ordinary way humans talk. Both out loud and to themselves in the head in thoughts. "What will happen to me if this sickness goes on and is not cured" for example, takes false ownership of a body and its sickness. But whose life is it? Is the life that clearly IS, existing here and now, "yours" or "mine"?

We will not supply the answer here! Only the suggestion to ask the question, whose life is it? What is it that claims "this is my life?" Is it telling the truth, whatever "it" is? And what is the source of the claim of ownership?

Another angle on the looking could be, the body I call my self is doing stuff constantly. It is breathing, thinking, drinking, walking, peeing, sitting, eating, crapping, sleeping, dreaming etc ... unquestionably all that stuff is going on. If, as the Sages point out, "there is no doer, actions happen, deeds are done but there is no individual doer anywhere", than an awful lot of doing IS STILL getting done. The question might be this one:

What is the source of the doing?

Doping is happening. That's self evident. Arguing that there is no doer is yet another doing! WHAT is the actual SOURCE of that doing? Take another step BACK: Being, obviously, IS. There IS Being. No one can argue with any logic or reason that there is no Being; no one can accurately assert "I am NOT". "There is no me" is not a fixed truth; and as an assertion it's insane.

Being obviously IS. Now the question is, what is the SOURCE of Being?

Is the source of being and all the doing "you" as that mind-body-spirit amalgam? That apparatus we call "me": Is it really the Source? Or is that Source an unnameable force we cannot know as it is but only as its manifest effects? It's like a toaster makes toast, seemingly it does that. But without the power, electricity, it does nothing. Unplug from the electricity and it is just a dead inert object. In the same way these machines called people are like a toaster or a dryer or an oven or a tape player. All have separate functions, unique doings. But all are dependent upon and operated by electricity. Their doing is ANIMATED by electricity, without which they are as good as dead.

In that same way all these billions of people all have unique functions. Some drive racing cars. Others lead countries. Still others keep house. Others are doing an endless variety of job functions. Writing books. Creating software. Building buildings. Healing the sick. Saving loves. Killing people. Writing songs. Fighting wars. Hugging trees. Playing music, acting in films and on and on; the list is endless. Interestingly, ALL of them BREATHE. Breathing is universal, everybody does it! Now the question is, what is the source of all the doing, breathing etc.? Is the source of toast a toaster? Is the source of breathing the body-mind machine? Akin to electricity, some Power does the breathing, living, doing ... THROUGH "you and me". What IS THAT? Is it a thing at all? Looking into this may provide a seeing ... an apperceiving, a knowing sans knower, that "I" am NOT the Source of what I am, what I do and what I have.

What is the Source of doing? And what IS the Source of Source?

What is enlightenment? How does one attain that?

Get the answer to the first question and the second one will make you smile.

Non-Separation: You Are That

There is no separation. Existence is not given in individual servings. When something appears, existence has expressed as that appearance, as that pattern. It hasn't become something different, something new, something independent, something separate. It is merely existence taking on a new pattern, just as water takes on the form of ice, liquid or vapor. If we speak of water we generally mean the liquid form, yet liquid-water is just one of three expressions of that which we "call" water.

In this comparison or metaphor, water then is existence - the true nature of water is formless, indescribable. When it takes form we can then know it, appreciate it, make some use of it - it can cool off our drink or quench our thirst. When the ice cube melts then the liquid evaporates, nothing happens to water. It still IS - only the form has changed, dissolved, dissipated.

But how hard is it to think of water without thinking of the liquid form? We've given a name "water" and then we're stuck on the appearance of it. But what it IS isn't a liquid - it can BE a liquid just as it can be a solid or a vapor or gas. It can be in any state but what it IS remains state-less, form-less. It is only the state or form which comes and goes - the natural state or true nature of it is unaffected whether it's in the form of a liquid, solid or gas, yes?

Think about that - some may have difficulty seeing what's being pointed out. I'm talking about that "state" which is beyond the transient state - beyond the pattern called "ice cube" or "water" or "vapor". If it isn't in one of these states, does it cease to exist?

This is either missed or it will hit the mark dead-on. If it isn't in one of these states, does it cease to exist? When it patterns as a tray of ice cubes, are there now 12 independent, new existences formed? Or is there still only THAT formless existence - the pure potential for ice cube - water - vapor? Was a new ice cube born? Does it stand alone in existence? Is it a separate existence, an individual serving of existence?
Thank you, Randall Friend

Seeing is Beyond any doubt...

It is not the ‘I am’ that is false, but what you take yourself to be. I can see, beyond the least shadow of doubt, that you are not what you believe yourself to be. Logic or no logic, you cannot deny the obvious. You are nothing that you are conscious of. Apply yourself diligently to pulling apart the structure you have built in your mind. What the mind has done the mind must undo. ~Sri Nisargadatta

GO beyond.....

Go beyond. Neither consciousness nor the "I am" at the centre of it are you. Your true being is entirely unselfconscious, completely free from all self-identification with whatever it may be - gross, subtle or transcendental. ~Nisargadatta

Peace is .....

Peace is beyond comprehension or imagination: IT IS. That is TWO too many words.

"I am" is an ever present fact, while "I am created" is an idea. Neither God nor the universe have come to tell you that they have created you. The mind, obsessed by the idea of causality, invents creation and then wonders "who is the creator?" The mind itself is the creator. Even this is not quite true, for the created and its creator are one. The mind and the world are not separate. Do understand that what you think to be the world is your own mind. All space and time are in the mind. ~Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Give the 'Ego' a Performace Review

My experience has been that most visitors are able to accept the concept of
God's will prevailing most of the time because they not only see the logic of it
but, more importantly, they experience a feeling of tremendous relief and
freedom: freedom from guilt and responsibility. But the problem arises because
the concept of personal doership and the corresponding responsibility for their
actions is so deeply ingrained that they feel that the spirit of relief and
freedom which they have felt may not be practical.

What the problem boils down to is this: 'Thy will be done is a very fine
concept, but I have to live my life in a society which in practice does not
accept this concept and holds me responsible for my actions. How do I live my
life? What do I do every moment that I have to make a decision?'

This is a very valid argument. My answer to this problem is simple: do whatever
you feel like doing; do whatever you think you should do according to your own
standards of what is right and wrong. In other words, you have the free will to
do whatever you choose to decide. Having decided to do whatever you choose to
do, thereafter what is your own personal experience? Have all your decisions
turned into actual actions? Supposing some of your decisions have indeed turned
into actions, have all those actions always produced the results that you have
anticipated and for which you have held yourself responsible? The answer is
obvious: some of your decisions have turned into actions, some have not; some of
your actions have produced the anticipated results, some have not; indeed quite
a few of 'your' actions have produced results quite contrary to your
expectations. Therefore, it is your own experience that your free will extends
merely to making a decision. What happens thereafter is, from your own
experience, not in your control because various other factors come into play
over which you have no control.

Now, let us investigate the supposed free will you have to make a decision. What
is 'your' decision based on? If you investigate this point you will find out
that you always base your decision on your 'programming', i.e. the genes or DNA
and your conditioning which includes your education and practical experience,
over which you truly have had no control. Recent research has brought out the
fact that many of your actions - both good and bad, positive and negative - can
be traced to your genes. So consider for yourself: how genuine is my 'free
will'?! (...)

(...) The final question that remains at this stage is: How does one acquire
this total unconditional acceptance that all action is a divine happening and
not the action of any individual person? The obvious answer is that no one can
acquire or achieve this kind of acceptance about God's Will unless that itself
is God's will! But one can take considerable solace from the fact that seeking
this peace of mind has already happened in one's case through God's grace and it
is truly God's responsibility to further promote the process. In the words of
Ramana Maharshi, 'Your head is already in the tiger's mouth, and there is no
escape.' But, as has been said before, this fact that nothing can happen unless
it is God's will does not prevent you from doing whatever you think you should
do. You do have that apparent free will.

The only spiritual practice I usually recommend for the intellectual acceptance
to go deeper into its finality is to experience the truth of this concept from
personal experience. The ego may accept this concept of God's will
intellectually, but the acceptance cannot reach the stage of finality unless the
ego finds from its own investigation of its own personal experience that this
concept is the truth as far as he or she is concerned. If only one thinks of
one's own past experience, one is bound to come to the conclusion that all of
the more significant events in one's life were not one's own actions, but
happenings over which one had hardly any control and which were the result of
circumstances over which one had no control. But that is not enough to convert
the concept into actual fact. This must be proved from personal experience from
day to day.

There must be an honest and thorough investigation into what you think are
'your' actions from day to day. This investigation is really one step further
from Ramana Maharshi's famous 'Who am I?'. This investigation that I suggest is
based on theory: 'Am I the doer of what I think are my actions?'

~Ramesh Balsekar

As Sri Nisargadatta urged: "Give up all questions except one: WHO AM I?" If you find answers drop back into "WHO has THIS thought?" (I do, the brain aswers. return to WHO AM I.) The Final Answer is HER, NOW. No-Answer is Space. Pure Awaness. You Are THAT.
